The ~100 pound box came in two parts and took hours to change. As electronic technicians we had to get an airframe inspector to verify that we properly installed the frame member. We had to carry the units up three decks to the flight deck. Some ingenious individual came up with a back sling for us to manhandle the bricks up the ship ladders. The only maintenance test equipment was the "Built In Test'' (BIT) that was notoriously unreliable. During the transit west, I, as the senior AT, had to brief the aircrews on how the equipment operated. I remember getting a lot of "YEAH RIGHT" comments during the briefings. But when one aircrew came back and reported that the ALQ-100 saved their buts they became believers. jpsagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08533802735622041806noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8652837616653424796.post-88290954456468343482021-07-13T23:15:44.804-05:002021-07-13T23:15:44.804-05:00any info on the alq-91?any info on the alq-91?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18374704826904493495noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8652837616653424796.post-29814721434268672482016-12-28T14:07:54.503-06:002016-12-28T14:07:54.503-06:00Project Shoehorn was initiated by Cdr/Capt Julian ...Project Shoehorn was initiated by Cdr/Capt Julian Lake (REWSON) and the first equipment was the AN/ALQ-51 deception jammer and was first installed in an A-4 at the Naval Air Test Center, Weapons Systems Test Division. After testing versus a AAA radar and a simulated SA-2 radar, it was decided that the equipment installation was justified and within a month, AN/ALQ-51s were being installed in A-4s in the Philippians OHR facility from carriers in the Gulf of Tonkin. A F-4 and F-8 from WST were then equipped and tested versus the AAA radar and simulated SA-2 radars. Quickly additional EW equipment was added to the Shoehorn Program. I (LT Peter Onksen) an NFO (EW), was the project officer for the A-4 tests and for the additional EW equipment. Peterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00424163019109632190noreply@blogger.com
